At our clinic in Sittingbourne and Sheerness, we recognise that motherhood transforms your body in profound ways and that recovery doesn’t follow a fixed timeline. Whether you’re weeks, months, or even years post-birth, your body may still be adjusting. A Mummy MOT® offers a supportive, expert way to understand those changes and begin feeling like yourself again.

What Is a Mummy MOT®?

The Mummy MOT® is a specialist postnatal assessment tailored to help women reconnect with and restore their bodies after pregnancy and childbirth. Carried out by a qualified osteopath, the session explores how your posture, muscles, joints, and pelvic floor are functioning together to support your day-to-day movement and wellbeing.

During your appointment, we’ll discuss your pregnancy, delivery, and any symptoms you’re experiencing, from core weakness to discomfort or reduced mobility. We’ll also focus on your personal goals, whether that’s regaining confidence, returning to exercise safely, or simply moving more comfortably in daily life.

Your osteopath will gently assess:

  • Postural alignment and movement
  • Core and pelvic floor strength and coordination
  • Scar tissue mobility (including C-section or perineal scars)
  • Joint and muscular function
  • Breathing patterns and overall body balance

Each Mummy MOT® is completely individualised, giving you time to ask questions, understand your body’s needs, and receive practical, evidence-based advice for ongoing recovery.

After Your Appointment

Following your consultation, you’ll receive a personalised written report via email. This includes a clear summary of findings, tailored exercises, and recovery recommendations to help you build strength, confidence, and resilience.

The goal is to empower you with practical steps, not just to heal, but to thrive in your body again.

When Can You Have a Mummy MOT®?

You can schedule a Mummy MOT® anytime from six weeks after giving birth (once you’ve had your GP check). It’s equally beneficial months or years later. Many women come to us long after the early postnatal stage and find lasting relief from issues they’ve quietly lived with — proof that it’s never too late to support your recovery.

Who Can Benefit Most?

A Mummy MOT® is especially valuable if your pregnancy or birth involved interventions such as a caesarean, forceps, or ventouse delivery, or if you required perineal stitches.

It can be particularly helpful if you’ve noticed:

  • Ongoing pelvic, hip, or lower back pain
  • Pelvic heaviness or symptoms of prolapse
  • Abdominal separation or weakness
  • Tightness or sensitivity around scars
  • Postural changes or difficulty breathing deeply

Your osteopath may combine gentle manual therapy, scar tissue work, and tailored movement guidance to restore balance, reduce pain, and improve function, helping you reconnect with your body at every stage of motherhood.

Claiming Through Health Plans

Osteopathic treatments, including the Mummy MOT®, may be covered by private health insurance or workplace wellbeing plans. If you have access to such benefits, it’s worth checking your policy as many clients are able to reclaim part or all of their treatment cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. When can I book my Mummy MOT®?

You can book from six weeks postnatally, once your GP check has taken place.

2. Is it still helpful years after giving birth?

Definitely. Even if it’s been years, your body can still benefit from postnatal assessment and recovery support.

3. Do I need a referral from my GP?

No referral is needed. You can book your Mummy MOT® directly with our clinic in Sittingbourne or Sheerness via our online booking system.

4. What should I wear to the appointment?

Please wear something comfortable that allows you to move freely, such as leggings or loose trousers.

5. Will I get personalised advice and exercises afterwards?

Yes — your follow-up report will outline findings and provide tailored exercises and lifestyle advice to support your progress.

6. Will there be an internal assessment?

Your osteopath may discuss an internal assessment if it’s relevant to your symptoms. This is always your choice, it’s only carried out with your full consent and can be stopped at any time.

An internal assessment helps us better understand pelvic floor strength and identify any signs of prolapse or dysfunction, ensuring safe, informed care.
