Massage
Sports and Remedial Massage works with the soft tissue of the body such
as muscles, tendons and connective tissues. The therapist can use
different techniques to reduce muscle pain, increase flexibility,
improve range of motion and re-balance posture. It can work really well
in conjunction with other therapies such as Osteopathy and
Physiotherapy.
In the first session there will be a consultation including
medical history, background information and assessment to decide the
treatment that is needed. It would be useful if you could wear a pair
of shorts for the postural assessment although it is not essential.
Stress Relief Massage
Many people suffer with back
and neck pain. This pain can often be caused by stress creating tension
within the muscles, especially around the shoulders and neck, which can
then cause stress. Massage is an extremely effective way of reducing
this muscle tension by manipulating the muscles.
Massage assists with
stress reduction and relaxation. During massage the heart rate and blood
pressure lowers making you feel more relaxed and less stressed.
About Lisa
I graduated from St Mary’s University College in Twickenham
with an honours degree in Sport Rehabilitation. Sport Rehabilitation
specialises in muscular skeletal injury rehabilitation.
Muscular skeletal injuries are injuries to the body’s
tissue/structures; this includes muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones and the
joint mechanisms e.g. capsule. As a Sport Rehabilitator I am able to assess an
injury or area of pain, by testing the structures, in order to rule out
possible injuries, to find what is causing pain/irritation.
I have gained a lot of experience in injury assessment and
massage whilst studying at University and since graduating. I have worked for
various rugby teams, where I massaged players and provided immediate care on
the pitch-side. I assessed injuries, massaged and talk players through rehab
exercises. I have also shadowed health professionals in a number or
physiotherapy or sport injury clinics where I gained clinical experience of
injury assessment and exercise rehabilitation.
Since graduating University I have continued to work as a
Sport Masseuse gaining more experience massaging different types of sporting
people and the general public. I also work as a gym instructor, where I have
gained a great deal of knowledge about exercise. Exercise rehabilitation and
exercise once the injury is healed, to restore clients’ fitness to get them
ready to return to sport, or how they previously exercised.
